Bringing to you The Sampan’s Auspicious Eight-Course Menu for Chinese New Year!
First things first, The Sampan is taking bookings from 28th January till 8th of February. They are closed on the 5th and 6th Febuary. Guests looking to book this CNY menu please make your reservations 2 days in advance.
What I really loved about The Sampan is their Pan-Asian cooking philosophy, which brought out the unique fusion style that the Chef has prepared for his guests. Dishes tasted are as below:
Sesame Crusted Salmon Yu Sheng – the sauce was a tad too sour for me but
definitely whets up your appetite for the upcoming dishes.
Kuah Hee Pio ( aka ceremonial fish maw soup) – is filled with sumptuous ingredients
and fufils the carnivore in you. The soup spells homecooked you can taste it right from
the first mouthful.
Chuka Idako tossed in fiery Szechuan Chilli Oil – interesting presentation on a metal
spoon and loved the fried garlic oil bits.
Kung Pao Chicken Salad – chicken tasted similar to fried squid dish, with the taste
of shredded fried chicken.
Jumbo Lump Crabmeat folded in Spicy Chilli Crab Sauce is served on a mound of
creamy mashed potatoes – my favorite dish of the night! Just perfect.
Duck Leg Char Siew with Yellow Pineapple Fried Rice – for tasting menu it was
sliced duck, a tad dry and slightly thick but too sweet sauce for me. However, the
rice was just perfect and peppery.
Ying Yang Orange Ginger Tang Yuan served with homemade Almond Paste, Black
Sesame Pesto and aromatic Citrus Tea
Mandarin Pisco – fresh mandarin oranges with a dash of lime juice – packs quite a
punch and they sure was generous with the alcohol content.
Enjoy the night by the river and watch the fountain lights if youre lucky. The Sampan owns Level 2 and 3 as well so do contact them for private parties / engagements
