Known for its Osaka-style fried cutlet skewers and dipping sauce, Kushikatsu Tanaka is bring out nine new specially curated seasonal Autumn dishes this year for a limited time from 15 October to mid December 2019! Here are some of the dishes which stood out from their Autumn menu, which is definitely worth the try!
For appetisers, all three items in their Autumn menu hits the spot!
There is the Kabocha Croquette which is a winter squash ( a type of pumpkin) coated with their signature panko. The contrast of the moist rich sweet flesh of the winter squash and the crunchy texture of the panko batter provides a nice balance bite. If you’re a fan of sweet potato or pumpkin, you should definitely order this!
The Dashi Tamago is also a pretty good too! With the addition of dashi made from bonito stock, it provides a deeper and more complex flavours to this fluffy layers of egg goodness as compared to a regular Tamago. It is also more savoury and less sweet compared to the usual Tamago served which is a nice change!
The last appetiser worth raving about is non other than the Surme Ika Butter Yaki. A whole mildly sweet and firm squid marinated with a savoury butter and soy sauce rendition, then sliced and pan-fried for an addictive bar snack. This goes very well with the various highball drinks offered as well!
From their Autumn Kushikatsu items, the Buta Nira Maki Kushikatsu (skewered chives wrapped with sliced pork and deep fried in panko) is hands down the best one to choose! You will never go wrong with the familiar flavours of chives and pork combined together. The steaming centre of fresh chives helps to cut through the greasiness of the pork and the batter which creates a nice balance overall.
Their Autumn menu also includes seasonal highballs and fruit flavoured sodas (for those non-alcoholic drinkers out there)! One of the highballs served is the Yellow Plum Sour which is a mix of ume (plum) juice, shochu and fizzy soda. The ume juice gives it a nice mix of sweet, salty and sour fruity taste with a little kick of alcohol from the shochu. It definitely helps to quench your thirst and whets your appetite for more kushikatsu sticks!
Be sure to visit Kushikatsu Tanaka this 15 October to mid December to try out their new seasonal Autumn menu!
