What to do in Malacca? — Stay at Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka for a one-stop experience

Having been to Malacca once, a few years back. It was a good opportunity to visit the Malacca City (also known as Melaka), this mid-February. We had a 3 days 2 nights stay at Ramada Plaza Melaka hotel, which is minutes away from the city centre, where the likes of Jonker Street, temple and happenings are.

After about 2.5 hours drive and a pit stop later, we finally arrived!

This was taken at the lobby of Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka. The lobby is rather spacious and thats also where the Famosa lounge and Zest is.

We were warmly welcomed with a Welcome drink at the Famosa Lounge at the lobby of the hotel, followed by a hotel tour, there’s a nine feet pool (the only one in Malacca), gym, hair salon (yes!), spa, three different restaurants — Italian, Chinese and a buffet style cafe for breakfast and dinner.

We were also taken around to see their different floors and room types. Like any other hotels, there are various types of rooms:

  • Premier Room
  • Executive Deluxe
  • Junior Suite
  • Club Room
  • Suite Room

You can spend about an entire day in the hotel enjoying the facilities and activities. A short itinerary could be as follow: Wake up early for a Breakfast buffet spread at Zest, after which, take a stroll or sunbath at their pool deck, otherwise you can have a Malay full body massage or Aromatheraphy massage (more details below), have lunch at Long Feng Chinese Restaurant, then go for a swim or a hair cut in house if required. Its our first time seeing a legit hair saloon in a hotel, have you seen one before?

The Long Feng Chinese restaurant mentioned above is also available for a Dim Sum breakfast buffet on Fridays and Saturdays. Slightly different from Singapore, it is self-help and you can pick anything you like (its a buffet), from morning till 2:30pm. Oh my god, you need to totally try the Durian Cream Puff, its really the bomb. Its so melt-in-the-mouth good. We love it to bits, creamy, soft in the inside and crisps on the outside.

If you’d like to have dinner, please visit the “Olio Italian Restaurant” in the hotel itself, its amazing and we really miss the food there, a simple yet delicious pizza makes us happy! It’s crust is made in house and we must say that they are doing a great job. Beside that, the Seafood Soup with Lobster is very rich and is great for sharing. At that time, there was also a Hot Stone promotion going on, where you can pick a protein and 3 sides, we got the beef tenderloin and its was oh so good, i also liked the truffle mash. I am already drooling at the thought of this….

In our opinion, a 3 days 2 nights stay in Malacca is well-sufficient as Malacca is not a big area to explore, other than the Jonker night market which gives off a better experience when visited in the evenings (well, its a night market), be sure to try their Durain Chendol, Putu Piring and other street snacks you can get from the street vendors. Its similar to the Pasar Malam here in Singapore. At the entrance of Jonker Walk, you can spot a red building “San Shu Gong”, thats where most people buy back White Coffee, Lime juice and other snacks. If you visit Jonker Street in the midday, you can also head to the nearby Christ Church Melaka, a red building adjacent further up from San Shu Gong.

After chilling at Jonker Walk, a tip would be to take a Grab from the main entrance back to the hotel, its about RM$6, so its well worth it, especially when you are feeling a little tired and want to lug back your loots more comfortably! After which, you can pop by the spa at Level — “Dacosta Spa”. We picked the Aromatheraphy massage as we heard that the Malay full body massage is more intense with greater strength involved. If you are a couple, you may request to have a couple room. We felt really relaxed and was in the good hands of the therapists. We were so refreshed and definitely had a great sleep that night.

So, the next time you are thinking to take a short break away from the hustle, you can consider taking a nice road trip to Malacca, pop by the 5-star international hotel in Malacca town — Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka. Its only 5 minutes to the City via car and 15-20 minutes via foot. We had a great experience staying in the hotel, with the great and warm hospitality of the front office staff, back of house and at the F&B establishments! We would go take time to return in future, for a nice respite!
