SUKAWA @ 99 Old Trees – Unlimited Mao Shan Wang/D24 durians

Are you excited for durains?? The season for durian is finally here and by now, you should have seen a lot of people around you eating a lot of durians.

Here at 99 Old Trees, you can expect to only get fresh durians as they filter out all the bad and rotten ones. They are a trusted retailer of quality durians and prides itself in offering only fresh durians which are delivered to the shop daily.

This is Kelvin Tan, Director (also known as ‘Chief Durian Officer’) of 99 Old Trees who will be conducting the session and sharing with customers his wide knowledge of durian.
For this year’s durian season, it is estimated to take place from 6 June to 31 August 2019 and 99 Old Trees is pleased to introduce SukaWa, a first-of-its-kind ‘omakase’ style durian experience! SukaWa literally means ‘as it pleases me’.

SukaWa is limited to up to two sessions per week, each lasting 45 minutes to an hour, for a maximum of eight persons. Durian experts will present at least six durian cultivars ranging from the wildly popular Mao Shan Wang to the rare Black Thorn, while guests savour unlimited portions of Mao Shan Wang or D24 durians (depending on availability).

The session is priced at $48 per person for a limited introductory period until 20 June. Thereafter, it will be priced at $60 per person. The experts will select six variants per day based on availability and quality; as many as 12 variants* may be presented on rotation. Depending on the varietals that his team manages to obtain, the ‘menu’ will feature durian cultivars from the lightest taste profile to the most intense.

The session starts off with a ‘cooling’ concoction of mint, cucumber and lemon water, followed by ‘A Sweet Beginning’ – homemade Durian Choux Puff piped with a mixture of D24 durian puree and fresh cream or Durian Mousse made with D24 durian puree.

After which, get ready for a continuous flow durian coming from here on, the durians will be served from the lightest to the heaviest flavour.

Below, we have the list of durian types that you might get during your session.

You will learn a lot of things as the session is extremely interactive and very open to discuss about common durian myths.

It will then end off with a whole coconut for yet another ‘cooling’ finish. Attendees may also request for unlimited additional portions of either Mao Shan Wang or D24 durian until the end of the session.

If you are interested, SukaWa is available from 6 June 2019 to 31 August 2019, and during durian season only. A 3 days advance reservation is also required.
