Love KFC? Me too. But have you tried Nashville Hot Chicken? Well, it’s a well-known type of fried chicken that is a local specialty of Nashville, Tennessee, in the US! Nested in a cosy corner along Jalan Pisang Road with some chill vibes, Chix is the perfect hangout with friends and families and satisfy your fried chicken cravings at the same time!
Alright, now that you’ve got a sensing of the chill vibes of the place, let’s talk about food.
I’m a big believer in fresh and quality ingredients and with Chix, I’m sold. They only choose Fresh Sakura chicken that are ethically farmed, growth hormones-free, and have them delivered on a daily basis, where it is then brined for 24 hours in ‘magic dust’ – a secret mixture of spices and peppers. (which includes some of the world’s hottest peppers such as Ghost Pepper and Carolina Reaper!)
For burgers, Soul Slider ($6.9) and The Dip ($6.90) are must-trys! Glorious generous slab of buttermilk fried chicken that is double the size of the buns – i mean, goodness me. I absolutely loved the Soul Slider’s pink sauce and slaw that refreshes the palate midway, but for those who like their chix wet, The Dip hot sauce will definitely hit the spot for ya.
And then, there was the Nashville Hot Chicken (Quarter: $10.90). Belting out four different heat levels: mild, medium, hot and insane, these chix were fried upon order. And needless to say, I had to give them all a try! And friendly advice, start off with the mild then progress from there if it’s your first time there. You would want to be able to still ‘taste’ your food. Here’s my personal journey with them:
Mild: Juicy and tender inside, crispy outside.
Medium: Manageable. (Note: beyond this level, my ability to discern taste/texture diminished significantly)
Hot level: The heat is unbelievable to the numbing level.
Insane: Tongue and lips on fire. I can feel the sweat forming from my head, and that a blackout imminent, no kidding. Apologies, didn’t manage to capture a photo of it – not like it’s harmless exterior is gonna give itself away anyways haha.
Oh, and daredevils looking for your next stunt, apparently there’s an off-menu spice level – atomic. Good luck.
Last but definitely not least, do not miss out on The Melt ($9.90). Classic grilled cheese sandwich that is fried, dusted and loaded with cheddar cheese. Didn’t dig the exterior batter too much, but the generous servings of cheese more than made up for it.
Overall, i really enjoyed the food and chill vibes of the place, as well as the hospitality of the owners 🙂 To commemorate its 1 year anniverasy, Chix Hot Chicken is giving all diners a SGD 10 voucher starting from 15th Sep to 14th Oct if they spend a minimum of SGD 15 per receipt. All the more reason to feast on some hot chicken now!
