Piao Xiang Mala – Mala dishes that you can enjoy thoroughly

Piao Xiang Mala is one of the pioneers who brought the pleasures of enjoying Mala Xiang Guo to Singapore. Started in 2009 at their first outlet in Food Republic 313@Somerset, they already have accumulated a loyal following over the years. This time, Piao Xiang Mala recently opened its second outlet at Ion Food Opera in December 2018 and features many new dishes to attract diners. Some of the signature dishes are Fried Assorted Mushrooms, Mala Brinjal with Minced Pork, Mala Crispy Slice Fish and of course the Mala Hot Pot.

Fried Assorted Mushrooms 炸蘑菇 [$6.90]
A good appetisers to start off with, it is not spicy at all and seasoned mainly with pepper and salt. Very crunchy and addictive to start off our spicy meal.
Mala Brinjal with Minced Pork 麻辣肉碎茄子 [$9.80]
Super flavourful and even though it is quite oily. Most brinjal are usually quite oily and really tasty. This goes well with rice.
Mala Crispy Slice Fish 麻辣香酥鱼 [$16.00]
Fish slices are bigger and fleshier than usual. It is also seasoned similarly to the assorted mushroom, only that it is drizzled with mala sauce. I like how the fish is not fully coated with the sauce because it could have been too spicy.
Mala Hot Pot 麻辣香锅
Singaporeans are so excited about when they see a Mala Xiang Guo stall because it means they get to choose what ingredients they want from a wide variety displayed. The spiciness is also customisable to what they can handle. Their Mala sauce is quite spicy but it does not linger.

Chicken Hotpot 鸡公煲 [$10.80]
Generous portion of flavourful and fragrant chicken.

Mala Crab 麻辣螃蟹 [Seasonal Price]
I am impressed with how the Mala taste has been successfully incorporated into these dishes and not at any moment felt that it was too overpowering. The level of Mala was just nice and enough to enjoy both the ingredients and the slight numbing and spice of Mala.
Many might avoid eating Food Opera because it is known for its pricier food however the stalls at Food Opera has been specially selected and brought in. Customer can expect famous name and highly specialised stalls that serve authentic and quality food.
Piao Xiang Mala is worth trying with the kind of innovative dishes the chef dedicatedly experimented and came up with. With a passionate chef that highly values customer’s feedbacks and suggestions, he has earned the respect and loyalty of many.
